6/12/09: Police Name Las Vegas Bicyclist Killed

LAS VEGAS -- Authorities have identified a man who was killed after he was struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of West Charleston Boulevard and Westwood Drive on Thursday.Timothy Robert Mortenson, 49, of Las Vegas, died from multiple blunt force trauma.Metro police said at about 2:31 p.m., both the bicyclist and the F-250 Ford truck attempted to turn right onto Charleston Boulevard.The bicyclist made a turn in front of the truck, and because of the vehicle’s raised height, the driver was not able to see him, police said.

Mortenson was transported to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, police said.Police said an improper right turn by the bicyclist caused the collision.
