6/27/09: 18-year-old bicyclist hit and killed on Highway 83 north of Seeley Lake

At least the driver had the decency to turn himself in, although no charges have been filed...

An 18-year-old Seeley Lake man died Friday afternoon after his bicycle was hit by a truck on Highway 83 just north of town.

The victim was identified as Rodney Jacob Loudon.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Eli Wolfe said the victim’s body was found in the barrow pit on the east side of the highway just before 5 p.m. Friday.

“He’d been there for a while, and it wasn’t clear at the time when the incident would have occurred,” Wolfe said.

Later in the day, however, a man came forward and told Missoula County sheriff’s deputies that he had hit the cyclist. Wolfe hadn’t yet talked with deputies on Saturday, so it wasn’t clear yet whether charges would be filed against the driver.
